About & terms

Free, independent and non-commercial

Folly Surf is a free, non-commercial project using publicly available environmental data and licensed services. Our rating formula is openly published. Source data and camera imagery remain subject to their providers’ licences and attribution requirements.

Information, not a promise

Everything here is for general information. Forecasts, camera views and ratings may be delayed, incomplete or wrong. The Folly Index is an experimental formula, not a locally validated prediction or a safety rating. It cannot assess your ability, changing sandbars, currents or conditions at the water.

We cannot promise a barrel, a good session or a safe one. Surfing, swimming, travel and all other activities are undertaken at your own risk. Check official warnings, follow lifeguard instructions and use your own judgment.

The site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of accuracy, availability or fitness for a particular purpose. To the extent permitted by applicable law, Folly Surf and its contributors accept no responsibility for injury, death, loss, damage or other consequences arising from use of, or reliance on, this site. Nothing here excludes liability or rights that cannot legally be excluded.

Sources and rights

NOAA/NWS material is generally public domain unless otherwise noted. Open-Meteo data is used under CC BY 4.0, with unit conversions and summaries by Folly Surf; its free API terms apply. Traffic information is supplied by TomTom under its provider terms. Directions open Google Maps under its own terms. Maps are © OpenStreetMap contributors.

Camera images and video belong to their respective operators. A link or permitted embed does not transfer ownership or imply endorsement.

Open formula
